Musicians for Education Receives California Arts Council “JUMP StArts” Grant
State funds will support arts education programs for local at-risk youth
[SAN DIEGO, CA] – The California Arts Council, a state agency, announced it plans to award $23,987 to Musicians for Education as part of its JUMP StArts program. Musicians for Education is one of only twenty-seven grantees statewide for this program.

Once a year Teresa Gunn, artistic director and founder of Street of Dreams, stands before a full house in the City College Saville Theatre and opens the student performance with these words:
We have the highest prison population that we have ever had in the history of the country. At Street of Dreams we are not willing to put another generation of people in prison because we lack the humanity to produce a creative solution. The solution is education and community collaboration. Street of Dreams is part of the solution.

Musician Teresa Gunn uses her sister's tragedy to inspire and help at-risk teens — Union Tribune

Though Oceanside-born Teresa Gunn made her early mark as a Washington, D.C., musician, these days she's known more for her work in local education and social activism. Gunn, 61, is the founder of Musicians for Education, a nonprofit that helps at-risk teens through the arts.
On Saturday, Gunn will perform her one-woman show, "Trailer Park Queen," at San Diego City College's Saville Theatre. The show begins at 7 p.m. and all the donations collected will go toward a college scholarship fund for her Street of Dreams teen mother program. (Check here for details).
Gunn, who took a detour in Georgia in the 1980s so that her son could play high school football, returned to San Diego in 1990. She explains the tragedy that motivated her to become a community activist. Read Full Article >
